A one woman tragicomic dance and movement based theatrical performance.
The scene; an unexpected conversation between the planet and humanity.
It’s business as usual,
until the planet shows up in your living room…
…and she’s pissed
What would you do?
The “planet” and Avery Maan (every man) meet unexpectedly in his apartment on an average morning. We are unsure if “planet” is the voice of God, his own mind, the actual planet or his neighbor paying a joke on him. In any case the “planet” has a lot to say and a lot to learn about life in a human apartment and being in a human body.
The characters seemingly speak to each other in symbol, signs, echoes, and big messes.
Avery struggles with what life has taught him as a MAN and the seemingly impossible way for business and planet-care to go hand in hand.
Carly performs this piece both as Avery Maan and as “planet”, two opposite characters that are finally one and the same. She uses dance, song, movement and theater to relate this tragicomic meeting.
““…The play is poignant, entertaining, thought-provoking, and of imperative importance at this time.” ”
““Carly is a dynamic performer who utilizes her prolific physical gifts to drive the entire story forward. She was mesmerizing to watch and her immense energy pulls the audience forwards as she tackles very complex themes that are current and vital. She was a dynamo as the entire production is over an hour and she never let up.””
The Characters
Avery Maan
45 years old.
He loves his bulletproof coffee, his supplements and his routine.
His motto is “On top you got this!”
He believes that if you don’t move fast the dogs will eat you alive.
Avery is overtaken by the whirlwind of a life where business is the golden rule.
He is solution oriented; he cares about efficiency and above all avoiding seeing what’s really inside.
He’s stuffed a few things down in his past, and is reluctant to let his vulnerable underbelly be revealed.
The arrival of Planet forces Avery into states of mind, being and emotions that were conveniently put away since childhood.
The Blender
Avery’s only moment of silence. When the noise of the whirling blender allows him to turn off his brain, even if just for a moment.
There is a deep relationship between Avery and his blender which the audience will find themselves laughing while silently relating.
PLANET
5 billion years old.
She or “they” has been silent long enough.
Planet has decided to take drastic action by entering into a human body in order for humans to finally listen to her.
She speaks every language, including the green June beetle, mockingbird, leopard, ocean and more…but human language is new for her.
She is just learning to navigate the confines of a human body, she is animal like, child-like, agile, and extremely clumsy at the same time.
She attempts to find a communication strategy by learning about Avery through his life and discovering the world of his apartment.
She can still feel her wind that used to blow through the walls of the building and her trees that used to live beneath the cement floor.
She touches Avery’s objects and sees his childhood stories, she reaches into his deepest darkest secret closets and manages to flip Avery’s life upside down.
Set design
Multiple white wooden boxes designed to be manipulated into various forms set the stage.
The white boxes represent an “Ikea-ish” styling, a monotone, carbon copy world of objects without soul.
The scene is Avery’s apartment, his desk, bathroom, kitchen and dressing room.
Transformational Scenery
The boxes turn into a tower and also compact to one unique box allowing for a transformational set design.
The boxes in the play serve not only as props, but as acrobatic supports and representations of objects such as a television, a car & a toaster.
The show can be performed indoors or outdoors with a 12ft x 12ft flat space.

About CARLY KO
Carly knows that she is nature. She knows that in order to create a whole planet, we must start with our own inner cosmos.
Carly left the US at 19 to become a nomad in Europe. Her living room from her camper window was the forest, lakes, beaches and mountains.
She dabbled in various social scenes ranging from sleeping in squats to jet setting with celebrities as a professional model and actress.
She toured with her street show for years and was hired to present her solo shows in hundreds of venues; theaters, TV, castles, conferences, tiny lost towns and in random lentil and strawberry harvesting fiestas.
She has attended The Circus School of Cesenatico, Italy for juggling and acrobatics, attended full time school in Paris for corporeal mime school with Theatre du Mouvement and Multidisciplined Theater with “AIDAS”.
Over the years, the realm of the yogic path, somatic movement, expressive arts, deep healing and meditative practices became the backbone of her existence.
SHe landed in Bolinas
in the SF Bay area 20 years later, where she fell madly in love with the wild coast.
In the eco minded bay area she delved into the ecology scene and happenings, where her instinctual, intuitive love of nature met the more brainy, scientific side of nature loving.
She saw a solutionist mindset difficult to access for the common person. A vital part seemed to be missing. We were designing methods to “fix” the planet, as a duty, or an urgent remedy, but first, we need to renew our relationship with the earth.
The grief and hopelessness of seeing ecosystems collapse inspired Carly to use the art of comedy and theater to speak out for the silent voices of non-human life forms in a way that people can relate to.
And thus arose, from her own depth of love for the planet, the show “If you knew she could feel…”
